The Fire Marshals office is responsible for the investigation of the cause and origin of all fires which occur in Horsham Township. The Fire Marshal is responsible for the inspection for the effectiveness of fire protection equipment and compliance with fire prevention regulations in commercial and industrial buildings, places of assembly, schools, institutions and multiple family dwellings. The Fire Marshal also is involved in administering the Fire Codes adopted by the Township.
The Horsham Fire Code prohibits the open burning of trash or yard wastes. Violations of the no burning law are subject to the issuance of citations and fines. Contact your local trash hauler to verify their policies on collection of leaves and yard wastes.
The Township issues permits to authorize neighborhood block parties. The Township requires that nothing be placed in the street which would prohibit emergency vehicles from having access.
Consumer Fireworks may only be purchased from a licensed retailer in the State of Pennsylvania by "out of state" residents. The possession and use of consumer fireworks without a proper permit is prohibited in Horsham Township. The term "consumer fireworks" shall mean and include:
(1) any combustible or explosive composition or any substance or combination of substances intended to produce visible and/or audible effects by combustion and which is suitable for use by the public that complies with the construction, performance, composition and labeling requirements promulgated by the Consumer Products Safety Commission in 16 CFR (relating to commercial practices) or any successor regulation and which complies with the provisions for "consumer fireworks" as defined in the American Pyrotechnics Association (APA) Standard 87-1, or any successor standard. (eg. firecrackers, bottle rockets, skyrockets, and roman candles to name a few.)
(2) The term "consumer fireworks" does not include devices such as "ground and hand-held sparkling devices," "novelties," and "toy caps" which are permitted for sale and use in Horsham Township.
The Fire Marshals office assists the Fire Department in conducting Fire Prevention Programs in schools and other requesting groups.
Additionally, an Operational Permit is required for operations defined in Section 105.6 of the Horsham Township Fire Prevention Code.
