Horsham Township Council Honors the Horsham Little League Association

On Monday, April 2nd, Horsham Township Council honored the Horsham Little League Assocation, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Council President Joanna Furia stated, "Horsham Township Council wishes to publicly recognize the outstanding contribution of all the men and women who have through their unsung efforts over the years made possible the fine athletic teams we have in Horsham today. We also wish to pay tribute to the men and women who are continuing to give of their time to work with our youngsters that make up the many teams connected with the Little League. Our appreciation goes out to the various businesses and other supporters who have sponsored Little League teams and given generously to provide them with uniforms and athletic equipment".

President Furia further stated, "Special thanks should be given to the dedicated parents, relatives and friends who rearrange their diner hours and social schedules and provide necessary transportation and moral support in order that our young people can participate regularly during the baseball season".

President Furia proclaimed, "It is fitting that we formally acknowledge on behalf of the citizens of Horsham Township, the debt that we, as a community, owe to all the folks who make Little League in Horsham Township the success that it is and duly recognize the outstanding history of the Horsham Little League".

The Horsham Little League Association was founded in 1957. Some of the original founding Board members still live in Horsham and are still volunteering for Little League.

Councilman Gregory Nesbitt, a former Little League player, thought of the idea to recognize Little League at the Council Meeting, which included a plaque and several short presentations. Others in attendance were Bob Nikander, 80, former umpire-in-chief and Jim Bruno, current League President.

The Horsham Little League Association will host a special 50th anniversary opening day ceremony on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 10am in Deep Meadow Park.
