Welcome, October! While many of us are busy getting our homes ready for Halloween and finishing last-minute house projects before winter, October also means the beginning of Fire Prevention Month!

Welcome, October! While many of us are busy getting our homes ready for Halloween and finishing those last-minute house projects before winter, October also means the beginning of Fire Prevention Month!

This year Fire Prevention week runs from October 6th to the 12th, and Horsham Township Fire Marshal’s Office and Horsham Fire Company are teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to promote this year’s campaign: "Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!"

October Fire Prevention Month

Home escape planning and practice ensure that everyone knows what to do in a fire and is prepared to escape quickly and safely. When the smoke alarm sounds in a real fire, its too late to start making a plan.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reported that in 2017 fire departments responded to 1,319,500 fires with 357,000 occurring in homes. Home structure fires accounted for 2,630 civilian deaths, 10,600 civilian injuries, and $7.7 billion in home property loss.

Horsham Township Fire Marshal’s Office and Horsham Fire Company encourage everyone to create and practice an escape plan with everyone in your household or business. Additional information for making a plan can be obtained by visiting www.fpw.org.
