Spring Yard Waste Collection

All yard waste must be in brown biodegradable bags or trash cans that can be easily lifted (less than 50lbs). Plastic bags cannot be used and will not be collected.

Yard Waste includes: leaves, branches and brush. Branches and brush must not be more than one-and-a-half inches in diameter and be tied together.

NO GRASS CLIPPINGS will be collected. Please dispose of your grass clippings in your regular trash. Consider using a mulching mower or install a backyard compost bin to dispose of your grass clippings. Leaving the grass clippings on the lawn returns nitrogen to the soil resulting in a better looking lawn.

Put your yard waste at the curb the night before since pick up could be early.

In addition to the collection of Leaf Waste by Haulers, Township residents (no businesses or landscapers) may also drop off their leaf waste in brown bio-degradable bags at the container located behind the Horsham Township Community Center.

Fall Leaf Collection

Leaves must be in brown paper bio-degradable bags and/or trash cans. If you use trash cans, do not use lids and use a couple of bags so the driver knows there are leaves in the cans. Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected. Place your leaves at the curb the night before.

Holiday Tree Collection

Only live holiday trees will be picked up from trash haulers on the dates specified. Make sure ALL decorations, tinsel and lights are off the tree, otherwise the tree cannot be composted. Place tree at curb the night before where you normally place your trash containers.

Trees are not allowed to be placed in the leaf waste container at the Township Municipal Complex.

The State Law:

Section 1501 of PA Act 101 stipulates the requirements for all households and commercial, institutional and municipal establishments in mandated communities to separate leaf waste for collection. (A mandated community is any municipality with 5,000 or more residents). Compliance with Act 101, therefore, means that in mandated communities, leaf waste is not to be thrown out with household waste or burned as a means of disposal. Leaf waste is defined in Act 101 as "leaves, garden residues, shrubbery and tree trimmings, and similar material, but not including grass clippings. In addition, Section 1501(c) (2) of the Act requires mandated communities to have a scheduled day, at least once per month, during which separated materials are to be placed at the curbside for collection. The PA DEP will consider a mandated municipality to be in compliance with the leaf waste requirements of Act 101 if there is one collection for leaves between Oct. 1 and March 1, one collection for shrubbery and tree trimmings between March 1 and Oct. 1 and provide a drop off location. The drop off location is Barnside Farm Composting, 991 Haldeman Road, Schwenksville, PA 19473.
